How to Make a Simple Tomato Sauce

To make a Simple Tomato Sauce, you will need 2 chopped Spanish onions, 4 tbsp olive oil, 2 crushed garlic cloves, 2x400g cans chopped plum tomatoes, 2 tbsp torn basil leaves, salt, and ground pepper.

1. Gently fry the onions in the oil for 10 minutes. Add the Garlic and cook for a further 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until very soft.

2. Add the tomatoes and season. Bring to the boil and simmer gently for 30 minutes or until the sauce is thick and pulpy. Add the basil and check the seasoning.

Beef and Pineapple Kebabs

Get your grill on with Beef and Pineapple Kebabs Recipe, skewers of marinated fresh beef, onions, tomatoes, pineapple cubes served with plain boiled rice with the remaining marinade poured over the top.

Beef and Pineapple Kebabs Recipe Ingredients:

  • 500g/llb rump steak
  • 3 tomatoes
  • 2 onions
  • 1 green pepper
  • 12 pineapple cubes, fresh or canned
  • rice, to serve

For the marinade::

  • 1 tablespoon molasses or treacle
  • 4 tablespoons pineapple juice
  • 2 tablespoons vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • salt and freshly ground black pepper

How To Make Beef and Pineapple Kebabs:

  1. Make the marinade: put the molasses or treacle, pineapple juice, vinegar and oil in a bowl and mix well together. Add a little salt and some freshly ground black pepper.
  2. Cut the steak into 2.5cm/l inch cubes and add to the marinade. Cover and leave in a cool place for at least 1 hour. Remove the steak and reserve the marinade for basting the kebabs.
  3. Cut the tomatoes into quarters. Peel the onions and cut them into small chunks. Remove the core and seeds from the green pepper, and cut it into squares.
  4. Thread the steak, tomatoes, onions, pepper and pineapple chunks alternately on to 4 long : 8 short skewers. Brush them with the reserved marinade. Cook under a he: grill for about 10 minutes, turning frequently and basting often. Serve with plain boiled rice with the remaining marinade poured over the top.

Sometimes the best food is really the simplest. Take for example this quick-and-easy Grilled Pork Chops recipe, where the pork chops are simply marinated in hot pepper sauce, garlic, vinegar, and dry mustard, then grilled to perfection.

Grilled Pork Chops Recipe Ingredients:

  • 8 pork chops
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 3 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • ¼ teaspoon pepper
  • 2 teaspoons vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon dry mustard
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 dash hot pepper sauce
  • 1 tablespoon chopped parsley

How To Make Grilled Pork Chops:

  1. Marinate pork chops in a large bowl using salt, pepper, 2 cloves garlic and vinegar. Allow to stand for about 3 hours.
  2. Then prepare sauce by placing one clove of garlic in a bowl and pouring boiling water over. Add a pinch of salt, pepper sauce, lemon juice, mustard and onion slices.
  3. Keep hot, but do not boil, then place chops under grill and grill until brown on both sides and pork is well cooked. As each chop is done, add it to sauce which is being kept hot.
  4. Allow chops to soak in sauce for about 20 minutes, keeping hot. Then garnish with chopped parsley and serve.
